City Council Meeting Update
CARDIFF WISHES IGNORED!

Cardiff Residents requested that the City Council stand with them and accept the Cardiff Citizens plan with only minor technical changes. More than 14 speakers, none with a  profit motive, all who participated in drafting the Plan, asked Council to accept the Citizens Plan to limit mixed use and establish set backs preventing ‘street walls’. They didn’t get what they asked for.

INSTEAD COUNCIL CHOSE TO SIDE WITH THE 4 SPEAKERS WHO SEEK TO PROFIT BY CHANGING THE CITIZENS PLAN!

Council sided with the Commercial Owner on Newcastle who wants to change the Citizens plan limiting mixed use so he can profit from an upzone to commercial/residential mixed use. He then wants to change the Citizens Plan that does not allow lots to be split, so he can turn around and split his 10,000 sq ft commercial lot, into four 2,500 sq. ft. lots for ‘mixed use. He asked Council for more plan review to maximize his future profits, and that he be granted property rights he does not currently have. HE HOPES TO GET IT!

Council favored the owner of the Post Office who wants to modify the Citizens Plan that protects Cardiff from Developer Handouts limiting mixed use. He is quoted in the NC Times as saying ‘Developers need Incentives’. He wants Council to provide developer incentives and an upzone to make it more valuable for him! So while he increases profits, and developers get “incentives” to increase height, bulk and density, the rest of us become subjected to the same State Low Income Density Bonus Laws the Citizens Plan protects against! Handouts for a few, at the expense of the Community!  He asked Council for more plan review to maximize his future profits.  HE HOPES TO GET IT!

Council favored the Broker/Developer who represents Subway. He seeks to profit by requesting that Council rewrite the Citizens Plan that protects Ocean View Corridors, to allow developers to increase building size, commercial/residential mixed use, and reduced setbacks. Is this the future home of the Liverpool Lofts? He wants to profit, while subjecting the rest of the community to street walls blocking ocean views. He asked Council for more plan review to maximize profits. HE HOPES TO GET IT!!
